KL Rahul : I hope Varad gets back goes on to achieve his dreams

KL Rahul donates Rs 31 lakh for budding cricketer’s surgery

Indian opener KL Rahul has come to the rescue of an 11-year-old Varad who requires a bone marrow transplant (BMT) to treat a rare blood disease. Rahul generously gave Rs 31 lakh of the Rs 35 lakh required for the procedure…

Varad’s parents, insurance agent Sachin Nalawade and homemaker Swapna Jha, launched a fundraising campaign on GiveIndia in December to raise the Rs 35 lakh they needed to pay for their son’s treatment. As soon as Rahul’s team learned about Varad and the fundraising, they contacted GiveIndia. After being diagnosed with aplastic anaemia, a rare blood ailment, the fifth-grader has been under the supervision of haematologists at Mumbai’s Jaslok Hospital since September.

Varad’s blood platelet counts were exceedingly low, leaving his immune system vulnerable to infection. Even a simple fever could take months to heal. Varad’s illness could only be cured permanently with a bone marrow transplant.

Speaking about the donation, Rahul said:

“When I came to know about Varad’s condition, my team got in touch with GiveIndia so that we can help him in any way we could. I am glad that the surgery was successful, and he is doing well. And I hope Varad gets back on his feet at the earliest and goes on to achieve his dreams. I hope my contribution inspires more and more people to come forward and help those in need.”(Player News)
